You lost the election because you nominated Senator John Kerry.

There is no doubt that Senator Kerry got close to upsetting President Bush on November 2nd. It is amazing he did so well given his tainted reputation while in military service during the Vietnam era. There is a plethora of documentation regarding his conduct and behavior. The perception of his service being honorable or traitorous was left up to the voters.

There was the senate hearing, the Dick Cavett interview, his book, films, including his personal 8mm film, and then eventually his navy "buddies". None of his military background was new "news" on the political scene. It has been around for over 30 years.

Did the Party and democratic leaders expect it to simply go away because he was now a candidate for the office of President?

With all the democratic politicians, who had either an unclouded military background or no background, the party handlers selected Senator John Kerry.
